A common negative emotion in obese people is anxiety, for which they develop coping mechanisms to cover up their pain, such as eating, 'laughing it off' etc. The secrecy of disordered eating often holds a tight grip over our ability to seek help or allow ourselves to count. How can we reduce our feelings of anxiety or any extreme emotions in an open way? I will listen and help to direct your thoughts and feelings in a positive direction. Behavioural and nutritional changes can be introduced according to your needs as expressed during sessions. Mindful eating, meditation and body awareness may also be tools which we can incorporate, because the body stores up stress and negative beliefs - let's gently release it!
Do you want to talk about this, without fear of judgment?
I can provide support and information as you make conscious choices about your health and lifestyle. Many overweight people have lived with their condition all of their lives, and have suffered from lack of self-worth in a society which rejects overweight people. It can be difficult to allow yourself to become the priority for once, especially as you may have developed the belief that it is your fault that you are in this position.
Some clients like to talk about lifestyle change in general, and exercise choices; meditation can also be taught as part of an 'emotional toolkit'.
Our relationship with food greatly affects our moods, self value and overall health. Compassionate or mindful eating is part of a growing food movement; by developing your intuitive nutritional needs and desires, you can free yourself of negative feelings around food and drink. Our need for the knowledge to help us navigate towards wholeness and healing is a key to the prevention of illness of all forms emotional, physical and beyond. You may already know a lot about healthy choices so Talkwise can work with you to enhance your lifestyle, check in with your progress and emotional needs, to reach optimum, shame free nutrition.
During sessions you can discuss your priorities and together introduce new routines and strengthen habits which serve you well. (You may choose to have a home visit as well so that we can help you to organise your kitchen, shopping lists and eating habits.)
Allow yourself to relish good food, without shame, embarrassment or secrecy.

Are you always in a rush, and don't have the time to consider your own nourishment? You may be aware that your eating has become disordered and need someone to help you get back on track, or you may fear that you are developing an addiction for either food or alcohol for example; Talkwise can listen and enable you to uncover any issues; together we can find solutions to help you achieve your goals. Use your session to make conscious and healthy choices for your mind and body. You can learn to enjoy and accept food and pay attention to your biological and emotional needs.

MEDICAL CHOICES
Bariatric surgery/medical interventions: many people who are 'clinically obese' have difficulty in deciding whether or not to seek medical help. I can help you to talk about your worries and ask questions; together we can enable you to clarify your needs and hopes for the future.

Post bariatric surgery: once you are home after your chosen medical intervention you will establish your new lifestyle, adapting your food choices according to your stomach's capacity for example. You should experience weightloss at a rapid pace and may well feel euphoric. Exercise will hopefully feel more comfortable as your size reduces and your clothes will become too big - time for a new wardrobe!
Clients can come for a little extra help one or so years after their operation. For example, some clients can find it difficult to cope with negative feelings now that they can no longer 'comfort eat'. They want an emotional 'toolkit' to enable them to manage their feelings in a long term healthy manner.
